L’Histoire de Soldat Jouet
This is a piece for flute and percussion, but it was written for my sister’s trio, The Fourth Wall Ensemble as a ballet. It’s an original fairy-tale loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Toy Soldier,” and follows the story of René (the toy soldier, played by a dancer) who comes to life in a toy shop. He falls in love with Collette, the mechanical ballerina who is NOT alive (played by the flutist), and fights with Jacques (the Jack in the Box who tries to seduce Collette with a tango).
