Pacific Basin Celebration was written for the 30th Anniversary of the Pacific Basin Music Festival held in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The piece is a celebratory musical gesture in honor of the Pacific Basin Music Festival and the great people of Hawaii. The piece utilizes traditional Hawaiian instruments (Pu’ili and Ipu Heke) as a salute to the music and dance of the culture and to emulate the rhythmic feel of the island. A main component of the piece is the use of Hawai’I Pono ‘I, which is the original National anthem of the Kingdom of Hawaii. The anthem continues to be a source of pride for the Hawaiian people and is sung at cultural and sporting events throughout the islands.
