World Projects Testimonial

bill_johnson As the Director of Bands, Emeritus at Cal Poly, I want to recommend that you take full advantage of the opportunity to perform in one of the finest concert halls in America, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. My final performance with the Cal Poly Wind Ensemble, after serving as their conductor for 43 years, was in the Disney Hall on June 22, 2011 as a part of the Los Angeles International Music Festival, sponsored by World Projects International.

For my students and me, performing as a part of the evening concert for the festival was a life changing experience. The hall contained the afternoon performing ensembles, many local people and over 450 family members and friends of the Cal Poly Wind Ensemble. I could not believe how my group sounded in that hall. We have a great concert hall at Cal Poly, but the warmth and resonance was astounding. Please go to the following web site: http://www.windorchestra.calpoly.edu/tours/Click on “About” and then click on “Past Tours.” Then go to 2010, Southern California (Walt Disney Concert Hall).

We were fortunate to have World Projects International as our festival presenters. I have always been impressed with their high level of professionalism as well as their solid philosophy of music education. These are not travel people. They are music festival presenters (mostly accomplished musicians), and, in my opinion, they are the best in the business, providing a tremendous educational opportunity to many young people from throughout the world. During your workshop with one of the festival’s faculty members, your group will discover that this festival is a tremendous educational and musical opportunity. Of course experiencing Disneyland just adds to the excitement.

It is wonderful that young amateur musicians are allowed to perform in this great hall. It is an icon of concert venues of the world. I have been in most of the great concert halls of the world including Carnegie Hall in New York. The Walt Disney Concert Hall is at the top of my list. One does not performin this venue without an invitation, however. This is hallowed ground for musicians. The Artistic Director for this festival often defers groups in hopes that they will eventually achieve the musical standards that are expected in this venue. Please let me know if you need additional information.

Sincerely, William V. Johnson
